Lightning protection equipment is in accordance with KS C IEC 61400-24 (Wind turbines - lightning protection)

32.2 Facility standards for wind power facilities

532.3.2 Main power switch

To ensure the safety of workers, wind turbines must be equipped with a switching device at the base of the wind turbine tower to cut off power during maintenance, repairs, and inspection.

532.3.3 Wind power plant facilities without permanent supervision

Wind power plant facilities that do not have permanent supervision shall be subject to 351.8.

532.3.4 Grounding Equipment

1. Grounding equipment must be integrated grounding work using the wind power generation equipment tower foundation, and equipotential bonding must be performed to ensure that there is no potential difference between equipment .

2. Other grounding facilities shall comply with the provisions of Article 140.

532.3.5 Lightning protection equipment

In accordance with Article 175 of the Technical Standards, lightning protection equipment must be installed as follows:

A. Lightning protection facilities must be suitable for the lightning protection zones specified in KS C IEC 61400-24 (Wind turbines - Lightning protection). However, unless otherwise specified, the lightning protection level (LPL) must be Class I.

B. Lightning protection equipment for wind turbines must be installed as follows:

(1) Place the air-termination device at the tip and edge of the wind turbine, but consider the material, size, thickness, and shape to prevent damage by melting due to heat generated by lightning current.

(2) The down-conductor wire installed in the wind turbine must be a metal wire that does not corrode easily and must be of sufficient thickness to safely carry the lightning current. It must be installed in a straight line if possible.

(3) Cables for measuring sensors inside wind turbines shall be protected from lightning-induced overvoltage by using metal pipes or shielded cables.

(4) The function of lightning protection equipment (receptor, down-conductor, etc.) installed in the wind turbine will not be affected due to deterioration of other functions.

A. A lightning rod must be installed on the top of the nacelle to ensure that the wind direction and anemometer are within the protection range , and the lightning conductor must be connected to the nacelle frame.

A. Lightning protection equipment for power equipment, control equipment, etc. must be installed as follows.

(1) Power equipment shall be equipped with metal sheath cables, surge-resistant transformers, and surge protection devices (SPDs).

(2) The control device shall apply optical cables and photocouplers.

B. Other lightning protection facilities shall be in accordance with the provisions of Article 150.
