Electrical product standards and mandatory certification in Vietnam

The following are electrical standards, mandatory certification items, and major certification agencies that must be referenced when exporting electrical products to Vietnam.

Vietnam Electricity Standard

  • Electrical specifications : Vietnam uses 220V, 50Hz power, and the outlet types mainly use C, E, and F type (European style) sockets.

  • Electrical and electronic products that do not meet these standards may have their use restricted, so they must comply with the specifications of exported products.

Vietnam Electrical Product Certification Agency

  • STAMEQ : The Directorate for Standards, Metrology, and Quality (STAMEQ) oversees national standards, metrology, and quality policies and certification.

  • QUACERT : A government certification body (Vietnam Certification Center) under STAMEQ, specializing in certification (CR mark) for electrical and electronic products.

  • INCENTECH : As a technology innovation center under the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam, we provide some support for CR certification.

Electrical products that must be certified before export

The Vietnamese government classifies products into two groups based on their risk level, with the majority of electrical and electronic products falling into Group 2 (subject to mandatory certification).

CR certification (conformity mark) is mandatory, and examples of major target items are as follows.

  • Household electrical appliances (rice cookers, fans, refrigerators, air conditioners, etc.)

  • Lighting (Lamp, LED lighting)

  • Switches, outlets, and wiring devices

  • Small power supplies such as transformers, adapters, and chargers

  • television, radio

  • Other electrical and electronic products specified in Vietnam QCVN regulations

Certification system and procedures

  • Vietnam's CR certification system applies standards similar or identical to international standards (IEC, ISO, etc.) and grants the CR mark after testing and document verification.

  • Certification usually takes 2 weeks to 2 months. It can also be done through a Korean agency (KTR, KTL, KTC etc.). Additional time may be required if a local factory inspection is required.

reference

  • It is essential to check whether the exported products are subject to mandatory certification under Vietnam's QCVN (National Technical Regulations). These regulations can be found on the websites of STAMEQ, QUACERT, and Korea's KOTRA and KTR.

Vietnam's electrical equipment certification and mandatory product classification are revised frequently, so whether the target product is QCVN-applicable and detailed certification procedures must be reconfirmed with the latest information from an official agency before export.
